The Indianapolis Region (encompassing the eight counties of Marion, Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Morgan, Johnson and Shelby) is home to 1,692,273 residents. Between 2000 and 2009, the region’s population grew by 14% adding more than 212,000 residents – through 2014, the population is projected to grow by 7%.
The region also boasts more than 657,000 households with a projected growth rate through 2014 of 7%. Current median household income stands at $54,728 per year with 54% of households earning in excess of $50,000 per year. Thirty-three percent of area households earn over $75,000 annually.
More than 67% of area households are classified as families, with a region-wide average household size of 2.5.
